Interior Design Tips for Gamers

Who doesn’t love a well-designed and thought-out gaming room? No one, that’s who. As gamers, we’re wonderfully detail-oriented. So how can we combine our eye for detail and our love of gaming to use in designing the ultimate gaming room for 2020?

1. Old is New (retro and vintage)
Retro stylings have enjoyed a resurgence, so put them to good use in your gaming room. Choose a decade and run with it! Whether it’s the ’60s, ’70s, or ’80s, have some fun with it! Game rooms are especially suited for such theming.

2. Metal Piping and Lightbulbs (rustic)
If your vision for the game room is more tech-heavy, metal piping and old-styled lightbulbs can provide a rustic contrast. On the other hand, if you envision a more classic look, then this makes for an artistic complement.

3. Brick and Stone Facades
Brick and stone patterns on the walls bring a unique texture to the room. Using a façade allows you to take advanteg of its ease of installation (it’s similar to laying down tiles, just, you know, on the wall), space-saving characteristics — without the “weighty” feel of full brick.

4. Wood Beams (and Tables)
If metal piping is best applied vertically, wood beams have the versatility for either a vertical or horizontal orientation. Have a support beam off-center in the gaming room? Adding a fake one with the same wood and stain as the actual support beam creates symmetry. Embracing this style brings a unified, cozy feel to the room.

5. Plants
When it comes to putting any room together, it’s easy to fall into a monochromatic trap—and game rooms can be especially susceptible. Plants are a cheat code. Bring in some greenery for a pop of color. Plants bring in an organic appeal and a bit of life into the room.

6. Bold Patterns
Another quick tip that can break up the monotony are some bold patterns. Of course, you don’t want your patterns to clash with the rest of the room: any solid colors you may have, and any preexisting patterns should be taken into consideration. If your walls are striped, you may not want to add paisleys.

7. Clock
Well, all good things must end and game night is no exception. Sad as that may be, this can be a matter of keeping your posse healthy. Know what time to disband for the night and keep a clock visible (preferably one that matches with your theme). The right clock can help tie the room together.

8. Table
The surface you game on is the key to the room. Take your time and select a table that not only meets the needs of your unique gaming requirements, but looks great and ties your room together. Look for and choose a table that is well-constructed and built to last. Also, find a manufacturer that offers the sizes, colors and accessories that will complete your game room and make it ground zero for all of your future gaming sessions with friends and family.

Of course, these rules are not hard and fast. Ultimately, it is your gaming room and you have the final say as to what looks good to you. We do hope, though, that these eight design tips for your gaming room will bring you a year of fun in 2020.
